Our first Summer School was a great success - Winter School is coming 2019
On the first August weekend our first Summer School for students took place at The Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. It was made possible with the support of the European Society of Radiology (ESR) which also accompanied the whole school on-site. If you missed it, check out their social media for a short video about those two amazing days which is about to be released.
According to the motto "Hands on Radiology" residents of the Charité and members of Young Radiologists offered courses in basic and advanced sonography skills including ultrasound-assisted punctures for around 30 students. With the support of the medtec companies MedTronic, Merit und Gore, participants could also train interventional radiology on two endovascular simulators. These courses were greatly appreciated as those skills are often missed out in university training. Also, interactive lectures on the most important image modalities were given.
Two of the highlights were certainly taking place at the end of the summer school. Firstly, Prof. Günther - who is certainly a well known name in interventional radiology - shared his view on the evolution of this emerging field of expertise. Secondly, Prof. Hamm - head of the radiology department at the Charité and the summer schools' patron - was available for an Q&A-Session on application and career in radiology.
With a dinner together on Friday we also offered a platform for networking and the possibility to find out about specialty training in radiology from peers in a relaxed atmosphere.
All in all, it was a great experience for us and for the participants according to the feedback we got. We thank everybody, who made it happen and are glad to announce, that we are going to repeat something similar with a winter school in 2019. Check our page for upcoming information about application and dates.
